5 tips to maintain blonde hair

OK, unless you were born with it, blonde hair can be a bit of a nightmare to maintain! Everything, from going canary yellow after washing, to going green after swimming in chlorine - it’s a nightmare to keep looking good.

But behold all your blondies... never fear! Thankfully, there are some tips and tricks to keeping your beautiful blonde locks looking aah-mazing all year round.

Here are just five of our favs...

1. Limit your highlights to 4 times a year

“Yikes!!” I hear you scream as you picture your hair part with regrowth that resembles the opening of a letterbox. But consider balayage highlights, they are hand painted and you can have more widely spaced highlights on your hairline to give you a softer regrowth.

2. Wash your hair less often

With the great advances in dry shampoo there’s no need to wash every day. With blonde hair especially the longer you leave it between washes the longer your toner will last. Keeping you canary yellow free for longer.

3. Wait as long as you can before the first wash after colouring

This allows your hair shaft plenty of time to close and lock in your toner.

4. Protect your hair while you swim

Apply a leave in anti chlorine conditioner before you jump in, or go totally retro with a cute floral bathing cap. Finish off by washing your hair after in an anti chlorine shampoo like NAK Hair Ultimate Cleanser Shampoo.

5. Use colour specific shampoo and conditioner

Many now contain toner to keep your blonde the shade you were after, like Fudge Clean Blonde shampoo and conditioner to get rid of yucky yellow. So upkeep of your colour is easy to do every day.

Don’t waste your time worrying about your hair. Follow these tips to get out there and prove blondes really do have more fun….
